Over 2000 alumni, camp families and community members came to Camp to Celebrate Coniston's 100th Anniversary.
Many people described it as "Magical," and we have to agree. From Friday night's Grand Gala to Sunday's Chapel…. it was three days of hugs, smiles, laughter, songs, games, reflection, tradition, generosity and pure fun. The Grand Gala saw 300 attendees dressed in their best come together for a night of great food, fun, dancing and fundraising. Alumni Master of Ceremonies, Steve Maguire excited and inspired this group to generously donate over $48,000 to benefit our Campership Fund!
Saturday was a picture perfect camp day on Lake Coniston as campers, ages 1 to 92, came in mass! Screams of joy were heard as friends reunited; future campers toured the grounds; current campers raced from one program area to the next showing their parents their favorite activities; all while alumni introduced their childhood "home" to their spouses and children. As old friends shared stories on main lawn, there was dancing to camp favorites played by our 1970's alumni band and 2000's DJ.
The dedication of a new handicapped accessible tree house donated by the Childhood Cancer Lifeline of NH brought tears to every eye while attendees pledged over $12,000 in the silent auction to benefit our Campership Fund. One could hear the Class A Clap echoing out across the lake or take a quiet moment at Vespers. Saturday ended as our summer sessions do…with closing campfire, candle light ceremony and fireworks. We were honored to have Pattie Reed Glynn (father Doug Reed Director 1959-1968), Scott Sanders (parents Bob and Erma Sanders Director's 1968-1990) and Nancy LaRue Bonell (Director 1991-1999) light our Centennial Campfire!
We concluded the weekend on Sunday with a Chapel Service overlooking Cranberry Pond on the theme of "Growing Up." As laughter rang out and tears flowed, we were all reminded of how special the Coniston experience is in our lives. Thank you to all who were here to create the camp magic with us!
