In 2009 we realized one way to impact more campers was to extend the summer season for one additional week in August. With approximately 100 campers, the shorter session has a smaller number of participants than the traditional 2-week session and is the perfect opportunity for a variety of kids, grades 2-6 to experience Coniston. Many campers begin their Coniston careers as a one-week camper and return as a 2-week camper, while others return to the one-week program year after year. The week features a similar program to the two-week, only for a shorter period of time.
The program is important because it allows a different group of children to experience the growth of being away from home, learning to make choices, and becoming self-sufficient. For some campers, the shorter period is more comforting and still allows for a sense of accomplishment for the individual.
As I said earlier, many one-week campers return the next summer for our two-week sessions. They return because the one week program ensured success for them. They felt safe to try new foods, learn a new activity, make new friends and experience the independence of moving from activity to activity on their own. In future summers they will grow in even larger ways.

I hope you will choose Coniston for your child.
