camper concerns & questions

Campers, we know how painful this news is. We feel it too. When we see your faces at Vespers and read your Highs and Lows, we wish we could welcome you on Check-in Day. We’re sure you have had many emotions after hearing the news, and we know how hard it is to hear that Camp will not happen this summer. We want you to know that this decision is likely the most difficult one this Camp has had to make since moving to Lake Coniston 56 years ago. Your safety and your counselors’ safety is what we care about most and we had to make the responsible choice for you. Many thoughts have probably crossed your mind, and we will try to help you with those here.

While Camp is the place that you met some of your great Camp friends, we encourage you to reach out outside of Camp: talk, write letters, and, when it is safe to do so, hang out with them. If you don’t have your Camp friends’ phone numbers, Instagrams, or TikToks you can always reference the back of this year’s Camp calendar to write a letter to them. If you look at the back of the calendar all camper and staff addresses are listed. If you cannot find your calendar let us know and we will help you. Our Camp community may be physically distant this year, but the friendships, lessons, and memories of Camp magic are always cherished and you can hold on to them and bring them home.

Our counselors are feeling the same emotions as you. There is an indescribable wave of energy and emotion when campers come through the gate on check-in days. The relationships that you have with your counselors are incredibly important, and just because you can’t see them this summer doesn’t mean you can’t keep those relationships. Just like with your camper friends, you can write a letter to your counselors; we know that hearing from you brightens their days as much as you enjoy writing the letter. The back of the calendar will give you all of the counselor addresses.

Right now, we are planning to hit the ground running for Summer 2021. We will continue to organize divisions by the grade you have completed by summertime. If next year you have completed grades 2, 3, or 4 you will be a Junior, if you have completed grades 5, 6, or 7 you will be a Middler, and if you have completed grades 8, 9, or 10 you will be a Senior.

We’re so sorry that you won’t get to have your first Coniston summer this year, but please know that we are welcoming you into our Coniston Family from afar! You’ll also get a sneak peek into some Camp traditions that we are doing virtually, like Highs & Lows and Vespers. We hope you join us!

If you were supposed to be a last year camper or CIT please be on the lookout for more information to come. We understand completely what these summers mean to you and are working tirelessly to make plans with you in mind. We will be emailing you soon with updates.
