college & career mentoring program

The mentoring program is a database of Conistonians who have volunteered to share information about their college, profession, career paths, and job skills. If you are looking for career advice, or are looking to find information about a particular college, you can request college or career mentoring and we will match you with a Coniston mentor who can help! We invite all to participate in the program. The more who participate, the broader the range of information the database can offer, and the more helpful it is to the Coniston Community.

The mentoring program is a database of the YMCA Camp Coniston Community who have volunteered to share information about their college, profession, career paths, organizations, and job skills with fellow Conistionians. The mentoring program isn’t a job bank, but rather a network of contacts in many fields and geographic locations.

The College and Career database is made up of mentors, who have been through college and/or are professionals in a wide range of fields.  Our mentees can request a college or career mentor to support them with college application support, interview tips, career advice etc.

We invite the entire Coniston Community to participate in the program. The more who participate, the broader the range of college and career information the database can offer, and the more helpful it is to the Coniston Community.

When you participate as a mentor, you agree only to serve as an information resource. You’re not obligated to meet with, provide jobs or internships or post resumes for anyone who has contacted you.

Being a mentor is an excellent way to:
  • Stay connected with the Coniston Community
  • Share with others how your Coniston Experience assisted in your college and career development
  • Help others learn from your experiences
  • Be a positive role model for alumni and other community members

Being a mentee is an excellent way to:

  • Gather career/college advice from a friendly Conistonian
  • Make connections with professionals in fields you are interested in
  • Get interview tips
  • Ask questions to someone with a shared interested of Camp!
These are just a few reasons to consider, and we’re sure you’ll think of many others!
The questions you’ll be asked depend on the college or career experience of the person contacting you. Some may be researching college or career options for the first time; others may have worked professionally for many years. Generally, you can expect the questions to focus on topics such as:

  • Your specific occupation or specialty
  • How your Coniston Experience relates to your college and/or career
  • Geographic locations
  • Information about your place of employment
  • Additional education/job training that will be needed
